Two great Champions
July 6th ,2008 …. The day which I would not forget for some time now …. First time in my life …. I am not upset on Federer’s defeat ….. But Federer did not lose today …. It was a 22 years old Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal who won …. He conquered the king of tennis in his own den …. Something which no one could do for the last five years ….
The stage was set …. Third grand slam of the year …. Wimbledon ….Nadal vs Federer in the final for the consecutive third year in the finals …. As if last year’s final was not enough to stop my nerves …. This one surely gave my heart some pounding …… 6-4 6-4 6-7 6-7 9-7 was the final score ….. 4 hours and 50 minutes of utter pleasure , glorious tennis and a great rivalry ….. and all these factors produced the greatest tennis match I have ever witnessed in my life ….. a match which blew off all the disappointment clustered inside me by what Ajanta Nendis did to India in Asia Cup…..
Federer said at the end of the match ,” I will be back next year.”…..So he will be … and so will be Nadal …. And so will be me …. To witness one more of those classic encounters …..
P.S. Federer is still world no.1 …. 😉
What an epic five set match by the two titans of tennis. My eyes were glued to this marathon for 4 hours and 48 minutes! This was the greatest and perhaps the best quality tennis I have ever witnessed in any tournament. Congrats to Nadal for taking down the great Federer.
