“Pack your bags buddy. You are coming to Kochi”

“Yeah, right”, said Cyrus and hung up the phone.

Wake Up Wake Up it’s a brand new day. It’s time to wake up and sing. Put the crown on your head. Live your life.

“I swear Jeremy, if you don’t stop bugging me right now, I will get into the phone and put an end to your misery”.

“Stop being such a cry baby and get up. You owe me this”

The image of Jeremy Lawrence’s face flitted across Cyrus’ mind. He recalled those numerous incidents when Jeremy had come to his aid when there was no one to bank on. He did owe him one. But why now? Why after so many months? Why would Jeremy ask him to come down, even after perfectly knowing the fact that there has always been only one outcome to their meeting – Trouble.

Wake Up Wake Up it’s a brand new day. It’s time …. “Damn you Jeremy!! I am going to come straight away to Kochi and run your Jeep over your sorry ass.”

“Hold on Cowboy. Spare yourself the trouble. I have mailed you the tickets. And please hurry up. You have to catch a flight and then a train. You have got an hour”

————————–

“That’s my boy. I knew you would never say no to an old friend”, Jeremy’s voice was unable to disguise his anxiety.

“Yeah Yeah whatever!! Now spit it out”, said an obviously irritated Cyrus.

“You see an odd couple sitting on the next berth. The one with a daughter”.

“You mean the bald guy with the young McGonagall? What about them?”

“Well look at them very well. You are coming to meet me as their guest”

————————–

“Can you lend me your lighter. Mine appears to have run out of gas”.

“Here”, said Cyrus as he passed the lighter to Shekhar

“Going for a family trip?”

“Not exactly. Just to meet an old friend and take a break from the normal chaos. You know how it is.”

“No. I don’t”, Cyrus’ reply was as stern as it could have been. Shekhar was stunned for a moment at the gained pitch in his voice, but came back to normal when Cyrus gave out a little chuckle.

“Don’t be alarmed my friend. I meant to say that I am always on a move. And staying at home, watching TV and doing something productive is what I refer to as ‘taking a break'”

“Free Flier, eh? No girl to tie you down, right?”, Shekhar appeared to be quite amused at his attempt to crack a joke.

“Right. And Wrong”

“How can I be right and wrong at the same time”

“Don’ worry, you will find out in some time”, Cyrus turned his gaze towards the trees and fields running past them.

“So where are you off to?” Shekhar said with an attempt to continue the conversation. After a long time he was talking to someone without worrying about anything.

“I am glad you asked that. Give me your number and I will let you know as soon as I find out.”

“Uh?”

“Free Flier. Not tied down. Remember? I love living a gypsy life. I go wherever the breeze takes me to”

“Do you want to join us on our trip?” Shekhar didn’t know what came to him that made him say that. He was expecting Cyrus to consider him a freak. And why shouldn’t he? He, being a complete stranger, was inviting Cyrus to a place he didn’t even know about.

Cyrus took a last puff and threw away the stub. He turned towards Shekhar. “So where are we headed Captain?”

————————–

“Are you out of your mind? For how long do you know him? 10 minutes? And now he is a part of our little happy family? That paints a perfect portrait, isn’t it?”

Cyrus could hear the couple’s argument. He plugged in the earphones to save himself from all the drama.

————————–

“You better be ready to welcome your new guest. And do get me the stuff you promised for. Signing off”

A smile spread across Jeremy’s face as he read this text. Things looked to be on track now.
