Mumbai : No space to breath
Disclaimer : This is not to hurt anyone’s sentiments. This post is dedicated just to my personal opinion about the subject.
I have never appreciated the crowd in Mumbai. From streets to local train to every place in the city, you will find bunch of people going in a certain direction to become a part of the enormous crowd that is ubiquitous. They say that this city keeps on moving. Well as an answer to this, I would say that this is a city where everyone is pushed from behind to move, whether he wants to move or not.
It’s been few months since I have been here and still, if I need to go to a certain place, I ask myself a number of times the very same set of question : How much time would it take me to reach there? How much pain do I need to take in order to reach? Is it at all feasible? Any many a time I get the very same answer : No.
I don’t have any complaints with the places. The source and the destination might be one of the coolest places on Earth, but the path connecting them? It’s horrible.
Why am I suddenly blabbering against Mumbai? Well credit goes to an incident I witnessed this evening. The local that arrived at Dadar was jam-packed. I was wondering how was it possible for the guys inside to even breathe. The scene started when the train halted at the station. The people were in such a great hurry that they didn’t even wait for the passengers to come down. The people who were trying to step down were pushed back, and in return they too pushed the people who were trying to step in. To summarize, there were two groups of people who were pushing each other, contributing to the mutual harm. Many of them fell down (and they considered themselves lucky to step down at least). Many of them engaged in fights and only a few were sensible enough to wait for the next train.
How difficult is it to behave normally? This was not one of those exceptional scenes. I witness things like this every now and then. Travelling by local is one of the things I loathe the most in Mumbai. I so much miss Delhi Metro, which looks a paradise compared to this. I just wish I leave this city ASAP and contribute to the greater good of everyone by decreasing the crowd (even if it is by 1).
