Hack the world before its Hacked

Don’t get confused by the title and start thinking that I have hacked something big ….. just couldn’t come up with a more flamboyant title to describe something interesting that I did last summer ….. Just have a look at the snapshot of the inbox of my temporary “hacking special” yahoo account …..

Please don’t get me wrong …… I am not a professional hacker 😛 …. And all the victims listed here are no one but my college mates ……. Almost everyone in the hostel having an orkut account had their password at my disposal within a week of setting down the trap ……

Well , it was just a mixture of few fake login pages and recently released greasemonkey hack that led so many victims towards my inbox …….. It feels so great to have the power in your hand ….. to have all your buddies requesting you not to tamper with their account …… Infact I didn’t tampered with any of those passwords …… Almost all of them are unread till date (except a few…..some of them wanted to confirm the tragic incident)…. 😉 ……

So that was till a few days ago …. I stopped receiving any more mails titled “Password Hacked by Ethical Hacker”……Either the script has stopped working (never checked it again) or my friends have gone extra careful knowing that someone’s always sniping them down …. 😛

All was going well …. I had given my hacking business a halt ……Everything was going as per the routine until one day when Ashutosh called me …….

Ashu : Harsh , have you hacked me off late ?

Me : No buddie , not this time . (in a mocking tone)

Ashu : Its not a joke . I am serious this time around .I am unable to login into my orkut account . It’s got to be you . No one else can .

Me : Are you gone nuts ? What interest will I hold in changing your password and robbing your account off you . It doesn’t make any sense.

Ashu : Don’t give me any excuses . I am dead sure its you . So , are you telling me or what ?

Me : Don’t act foolish . I told you its not me . For God sake , believe me damed.

Ashu : So you are not telling . Go to hell . I don’t give a damn about that account , I am better off making a new one than pleading before you . By the way , thanks a lot .

With these words he finished the call .The “Boy who cried Wolf” story started flashing in my mind . I was blamed of doing something that I hadn’t done and more so by one of my close friends . I don’t blame him . I would be baffled too if someone hack me down ….. and anyways , I blackmailed him a number of times saying that I have got his password “safe” in my inbox …… 😉

Though it took just one meeting for us to clear all the misunderstandings , I learnt the same lesson that the wolf story teaches us ….

“Don’t cry ‘wolf’ , when there is no ‘wolf’ , even if there are few wolfs around! “
